Election News Center for the Conventions and Beyond
The Democratic National Convention starts today, and with it, Pacifica Radio is officially launching Election411.org.
Election411.org is Pacifica's Election News Center and serves as your directory to the national party conventions and beyond. The site features up-to-the-minute blogs from people on the ground in Denver and St. Paul, highlights from Pacifica's convention radio broadcasts, comments and discussion from site visitors, a trove of archival audio from the Pacifica Radio Archives, and audio, text, and pics submitted by Pacifica affiliates and scores of others.

"The site should serve as an opportunity for all in the Pacifica universe to blog on site at the conventions, add stuff from off site, and continue on as a portal into the future through election day," said Pacifica Network Programming Coordinator Nathan Moore. "We're dipping our toes into the online media water, getting ready to dive in."
After the conventions wrap up, the site will continue - all the way to November. Election411.org is a network-wide Pacifica foray into building an online media presence around the national elections, and it will bring Pacifica's unique critical eye to an online venue, highlighting, illuminating, analyzing, and critiquing these conventions and election season happenings.
Election411.org also offers a venue to share some of the priceless audio recordings from the Pacifica Radio Archives. The site will steadily release excerpts from Pacifica's past coverage of political conventions, speeches, and protests that can help illuminate our current era.
"Pacifica has been there to cover conventions and elections for decades, and we hope journalists, activists, and citizens can learn about where we've been from these incredible recordings," said Pacifica Radio Archives Director Brian DeShazor. "The 1968 Preservation Access Project, in particular, tells the story of that pivotal year in a way that otherwise would not be possible. The power of where Pacifica was at that time will really be shown off on Election411.org as we look back."
Election411.org is hosted by Pacifica station KPFA. It includes a number of features for public participation, including commenting, open thread blogs, article-sharing through networking sites, and more.
