COMMENT TO THE FCC IN FAVOR OF LIMITS
ON FULL-POWER RADIO APPLICATIONS
August 29, 2007
As a supporter of community radio, you can do something right now to give locally-based independent media a better chance of competing with large conservative media groups with deep pockets.
There's an easy comment-filing tool with regards to the application limit for full-power non-commercial stations at this address:
www.freepress.net/fcc/comment.php?dn=fullpowerradio
You can also file comments electronically via the FCC website.
Note: Comments are due September 6.
This October, community groups will have a final chance to bring full-power local radio to their areas. The FCC will allow Americans to apply for licenses to build stations in the FM band's non-commercial section - Noncommercial Educational (NCE) licenses between 88 and 92 FM.
However, during October's media gold rush, we community folks could get shut out. During non-commercial licensing periods in the recent past, single large players have engaged in speculative behavior or attempted to build nationwide conservative networks by applying for frequencies in hundreds of communities.
In response to this problem, and to create fairer conditions of competition this time, the FCC has proposed setting a maximum number of 10 licenses per applying group. This would ensure that local community groups have a better chance.
This is an historic application window. Since this October is likely the very last chance for local community groups to obtain a full-power radio license in most places, and because in many communities only one radio frequency is now available for community radio, it is important to support the FCC's proposal to limit the number of full-power FM station applications to ten per applicant.
Please take action now!

Re: Limiting number of applications per entity
Dear Chairman and Commissioners:
I am enclosing copies of this letter for the Chairman and
each of the Commissioners as well as the the leaders of the
audio division.
I urge you to limit the number of applications from a
single entity to no more than ten (10) applications.
This is only fair to local interests who want local
programming, but do not have the "deep pockets" required for
multiple filings. Local ownership by new groups is democracy
at its best.
Please help "level the playing field" by limiting to
ten or less the number of applications which can be filed by
a single entity.
Sincerely,
[Your Name Here]
