WOMEN TEACHING WOMEN

Thursday June 7, 2007
Produced by Julie Sabatier and Brian Kramer of KBOO in Portland, Oregon

This week on Sprouts, we speak with Johanna Brenner, cofounder of "In Other Words, Women's Books and Resources" (www.inotherwords.org), one of the only non-profit feminist bookstores in the United States. Johanna is also Professor Emeritus at Portland State University and coordinator of the Women's Studies program there.

In the second half of the show we visit the Rock 'n' Roll Camp for Girls (www.girlsrockcamp.org), where women rock out and girls are encouraged to make as much noise as possible.

The show also features original music by Jason Leonard, and an excerpt from "Modern Girl" by Sleater Kinney.

To contact Julie Sabatier or hear episodes of her monthly radio show and podcast "DIY Portland," visit www.myspace.com/julieontheradio.

Sprouts is a weekly program produced in collaboration with community radio stations and independent producers across the country. We bring you local stories of national interest produced at these radio stations and media groups.

The program is offered free of charge to all radio stations. For information, or if you would like to feature your work on Sprouts, contact Ursula Ruedenberg at ursula@pacifica. org.
