Community Radio for Des Moines
 KGVC is the new low power radio station broadcasting from Grand View College in Des Moines, IA. The station’s signal reaches most of the city of Des Moines and some of the surrounding suburbs. The KGVC format is “World Music and Talk from Around the World.” The goal of the station is to reach out to the multicultural community with an emphasis on providing contemporary music to young adults that they cannot hear elsewhere on the radio dial.
KGVC is authorized by the FCC to transmit at 100 watts from 4 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays and all day Sunday. The FCC awarded Grand View College the non-commercial license on a shared frequency with Drake University, which airs rock music on 94.1 FM from 4 p.m. to 4 a.m. weekdays and all day Saturday. The two stations have separate facilities, separate call letters and different formats. The only thing the two stations share are the frequency, as required by the FCC.
