FREE SKOOL RADIO NEWS

Thursday, January 25, 2007
Produced in Santa Cruz, CA by student reporters of Radio Journalism 101 w/ production assistance from Vinny Lombardo.

Imagine learning without the bureaucracy of forms and finances. Free Skools accomplish just that. With roots in the anarchist Modern Schools of Spain from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, free skool is a decentralized network of people, in which skills, information, and knowledge are shared voluntarily, and where the  top-down hierarchy of a traditional, teacher/student relationship is turned sideways.

These types of anti-authoritarian skools are still  active today in Australia, Canada, England, and in cities across the  US. Acting collectively and autonomously, Free Skool participants take  a decentralized approach to teaching and skill sharing.

This week on Sprouts, we present Free Skool Radio News, a collection of reports,  interviews, and sounds produced by, for, and about participants in Free Skool Santa Cruz.

Sprouts is a weekly newsmagazine produced collaboratively between  Pacifica Radio, and ndependent producers at community radio stations across the country. The program is offered free of charge to all radio  stations and welcomes submissions from producers in independent media. For information, contact Ursula Ruedenberg at ursula@pacifica.org.
