We are saddened to say that Ebon Dooley, broadcast director of WRFG - Radio Free Georgia - in Atlanta Georgia, passed away October 12, in his sleep, after doing a radio program. With his death, our network loses an inspiring member and dear friend.
Ebon was an important part of the heart and soul of WRFG and played a critical role in the Atlanta area. He was dedicated to community radio, looking for ways to increase its presence in the South, he helped with building coalitions in the area between WRFG and other progressive media institutions in the South, as well as participated in preparations for the the upcoming US Social Forum in Atlanta.
Ebon Dooley and Kai Aiyetoro at the 2006 NFCB Conference in Portland, OR WRFG is one of Pacifica's oldest affiliates. Last September, Ebon described our relationship warmly. Ebon served as an affiliate representative to the Pacifica National Board this year until his health problems forced him to resign. David Miller, writer for pacificanetwork.org profiled Ebon and WRFG. During the time that he worked with us, we too, at Pacifica discovered how gracious he was and how delightful his compnay was.
We wish to express our condolences to Ebon's family and to WRFG. The WRFG web site provides more information about Ebon and his passing. |
