WOMR

Provincetown, MAWOMR, Outermost Community Radio, is a non-profit organization, not  affiliated with any educational institution, created in 1976 by a small band of radio visionaries dedicated to bringing community radio to Provincetown, MA. It took several years for them to realize their dream, but finally WOMR went on the air on March 21st 1982 with 1000 watts at a frequency of 91.9 FM. In November of 1995, WOMR moved to 92.1 FM in order to raise power to 6000 watts thus reaching a much wider audience on Cape Cod and the South Shore. To improve their signal from Orleans to Hyannis, they plan to install a second transmitter in Orleans which would broadcast our signal at 91.3 FM.

WOMR derives its financial support from listeners, businesses and grant making organizations like the Massachusetts Cultural Council. Located in an area that is not only an  historic ocean-front community but also an artistic community, the WOMR seeks to actively encourage and support artists and writers. The station resides in a beautiful old school building, which it owns, with an art gallery on the first floor.

WOMR's mission is to:

  • Benefit of the residents of and visitors to Cape Cod; be entertaining, informative and educational
  • Encourage participation by members of Cape communities in the management of the station and in the production of radio programs; to provide an outlet for Cape codders to present educational, artistic and informative programs.
  • Provide air time and facilities to community members and groups; to provide program coverage of local news, educational and social events
  •  Present cultural and ethnic programs to the local audience and to present instructional programming related to marine life and conservation interests
