Pacifica Sister Stations
The Pacifica Foundation began in 1949 with first listener sponsored community
radio station, KPFA in Berkeley, CA. In the over 56 years since, Pacifica has
added 4 other stations in the US. The second sister station in the Pacifica
Network was KPFK in Los Angeles, CA, followed by Pacifica's first station outside
of California - WBAI in New York. In the following years, KPFT in Houston, TX
and WPFW in Washington DC were added to the Network.
Historically, Pacifica's mission and focus has taken these sister stations
to some extraordinary places, through various times - always offering our communities
information and culture not seen or heard on American media. From historic Vietnam
era coverage, through the civil rights era, the Watergate scandal, the Cuban
revolution, the Iran Contra scan del, up through the recent US Electoral 'Counter
Conventions', Pacifica has been there to break and report stories that others
refused to.
A true measure of Pacifica's historical significance is our Pacifica
Radio Archives. A national treasure, these archives represent some of the
rarest historical audio available in the entire world. Our Pacifica Radio Archives
has recently been working with the Library of Congress, as well as other educational
institutions to share these rich treasures.
Today, Pacifica's Sister stations work closer together than ever, and together
with the Pacifica Affiliate Stations, we make the USA's only national progressive
community radio network.
Below is are the five Pacifica Sister stations (as a blog
